Transportation Options

The Appalachian Rideshare on the Student Union website is a new resource recently established.

AppalCART

AppalCART routinely performs out of county trips Monday through Friday under contract with the Watauga County Department of Social Services. These trips are often to Charlotte or Winston-Salem with a weeks advance notice. All trips are open to the fare paying public on a space available basis. Fares are based on a rate of $.25 per mile. Anyone interested in going to a city where a trip is scheduled can call the dispatch office at 828-264-2280 and inquire as to departure times and dates for the week in question. Fares may be paid in cash at the AppalCART office prior to the departure.

MOUNTAINEER EXPRESS SCHEDULE

Two round trip bus routes daily (7 days/week) between Greensboro and Boone, with stops in Winston-Salem, Yadkinville and Wilkesboro are available. The travel time for the trip from Greensboro to Boone is about three hours

West Bound Trips
Morning west bound trips begin in Greensboro at 5:30 a.m. to stop in Winston-Salem at 6:10 a.m., Yadkinville at 6:55 a.m., Wilkesboro at 7:30 a.m., ASU at 8:20 a.m. and Boone Mall at 8:30 a.m.

Afternoon west bound trips will begin in Greensboro at 3:00 p.m. and stop in Winston-Salem at 3:40 p.m., Yadkinville at 4:35 p.m., Wilkesboro at 5:10 p.m., ASU at 6:05 p.m. and Boone Mall at 6:15 p.m.

East Bound Trips
Morning east bound trips will begin at Boone Mall at 8:45 a.m., and stop at ASU at 8:55 a.m., with stops in Wilkesboro at 9:45 a.m., Yadkinville at 10:15 a.m., Winston-Salem at 10:40 a.m. and Greensboro at 11:35 a.m. Connection to Greyhound available.

Afternoon east bound trips will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Boone Mall, with stops at ASU at 6:40 p.m., Wilkesboro at 7:35 p.m., Yadkinville at 8:05 p.m., Winston-Salem at 8:30 p.m. and Greensboro at 9:30 p.m. Connection to Greyhound available.

One way fares range from $10.00 (from Greensboro to Boone) to $2.00 (from Greensboro to Winston-Salem). Elderly, disabled and student fares are discounted 50%.

New Shuttle To and From the Charlotte Airport

Try the new *HICKORY HOP!*

TO AND FROM APPALACHIAN

Try the Hickory Hop, a new airport shuttle between Appalachian StateUniversity and the Charlotte Airport (with a minimum of 4 passengers for shuttle to run). Per Student: $100 round trip or $60 one way.

TO AND FROM HICKORY

The Hickory Hop operates 7 times daily between the Hickory and Charlotte Airports. The cost is $30 one way and $50 round trip from Hickory to Charlotte.
